New associate dean selected for CSUSB Palm Desert Campus

Anissa Rogers has been named the new associate dean of the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and began her new position on Aug. 28.
 
“I am pleased to welcome Anissa as the new associate dean of the Palm Desert Campus,” said Jake Zhu, dean of the Palm Desert Campus. “Her many responsibilities will include ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of current and future academic programs, elevating students’ experiences and working to expand our service capacity. I know her many years of higher education experience will be asset to the campus as we continue to work closely with our San Bernardino colleagues to seek continued growth.”
 
Rogers, a licensed clinical social worker, brings more than 20 years of higher education experience to CSUSB. She comes to the Palm Desert Campus from the University of Portland, where she held several leadership positions. Most recently, she served as the director of the Social Work Program. Prior to that, she served as the chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and co-director of Gender and Women Studies.   
 
Her research areas and interests include GLBTQ issues, mental health and aging, women’s issues and aging, Latinx health and mental health, and services and support for aged individuals in rural and urban areas. She has written numerous refereed publications as well as several books and chapters.
 
Rogers earned three degrees from the University of Utah; a Ph.D. in social work, an M.S.W. in health/mental health and administration and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish, along with a certificate in gerontology. She also holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Ball State University in Indiana.
 
Rogers will replace the recently retired Doris Wilson, who served as the Palm Desert Campus associate dean for nine years.
 
The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees, a doctorate in educational leadership, and teaching credentials and certificates. With more than 1,400 students, it is the Coachella Valley’s four-year public university and plays a vital role in educating and training the region’s growing population.
