CSUSB to hold memorial service on Dec. 16 for slain student

California State University, San Bernardino will host a memorial service on Monday, Dec. 16 to honor the memory of Abhishek Sudhesh Bhat, a 25-year-old graduate student from Mysuru, India pursuing a master’s degree in computer science, who was killed off campus on Thanksgiving Day.
 
The service to celebrate Abhishek’s life will be from 4-6 p.m. at the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center. The speakers include CSUSB President Tomás Morales, along with university administrators, faculty, students, friends and family.
 
The doors will open at 4 p.m. with the service expected to begin at 4:20. Free parking will be available in Lot D. Members of the community are welcome to attend.
 
Abhishek was an exceptional student earning a 3.778 overall GPA in his second year as a graduate student in computer science. He started graduate school in the spring of 2018 after moving to the United States last March.
 
He served as a teaching assistant for the College of Natural Sciences working closely with his program advisor, Ernesto Gomez. Haiyan Qiao, the department chair for the computer science department said, “Abhishek was a very pleasant person who was well-liked by CSE faculty, staff, and students.”
 
He was involved with the CSUSB Indian Student Association and the larger Indian student community as well.
